The wonderful talents and
generosity of the BB/Ns never fail to amaze me. For
the second time in BB/N history, a quilt has been
made ... this time to celebrate a BB/N
wedding.
Anonymous Diane came up with a
plan to create a quilt for Lisa and Keith. As Laura
Helvie did with Nora's quilt, she put out a call
for "signatures." And like Laura, Diane coordinated
it all on her own--via e-mails, IMs, and chat. Then
she had to rely on BB/Ns to get back their
"signatures" in a timely manner
(imagine Sue here whistling w/her hands behind her
back, saying "Who? Me?) Then she had to put
together her creation. The result? A masterpiece
that is priceless.
In Diane's words:
The quilt is a star log cabin
pattern, laid out in the traditional "star" design
-- if you look at it from a distance, there is a
big blue star in the center of the quilt made from
the log cabin blocks, as well as the little
individual stars. It was made out of calico cotton
prints in various shades of blue and pink, with
dark blue paisley, floral, and sky borders.
Signature stars were acquired from the various
broads who responded to a mass email call last
summer/fall ... Signatures were from Nora, Pat
Gaffney, Mary Kay McComas, Ruth Ryan Langan, Donna
Kauffman, Melinda St, Drxl88, TDahms, Ca Dutch,
Whann, Spunkdunc, Jonalyn, Jaci, SueCBDR, WSM,
Ruth, Kawnie, Di, Phyllis, Wym, Tracey, JJ and PC,
Ottis, NancyD, Diane-Anon, MiladyJane, CarolynSB,
NitneeLin, Eschmook, SnowbearDM, Edith Apple,
Arlene, Vicki, TwoJeans, Katie, Ceece, Bon and
JaneE. The extra spacers (stars that didn't have
signatures, needed to balance the squares) had
things like book titles or phrases...
Sanctuary, Promise Me
Tomorrow, Love is
Online... that sort of thing.
Diane's generosity and
determination to see through this project typifies
the spirit of Board Broads/Noraholics everywhere,
and she is very deserving of ADWOFF's
R.O.A.R.K.E.
An honorable mention R.O.A.R.KE.
goes to Rockin' Robin--Board Brat extraordonaire!
Why? Two reasons. First, she's taken the lead with
a group of ladies not on AOL and has created
something special. Second, when I went missing in
action, she and the Brats help to make me laugh ...
and laugh some more ... with their adventures on
ADWOFF's messageboard.
The Broads meet some of the
Brats this weekend @ TTP 3. It should be
interesting! ;-)
Yet one more honorable mention
for a R.O.A.R.K.E. needs to go out to an individual
who wishes to remain anonymous. Because of this
BB/N's generosity, I have completed my Nora
collection; in addition, so that they find good
homes, Nancy D. is coordinating the distribution of
the remaining books. What is even more amazing--is
that this BB/N would NOT accept a single penny for
any of the titles.
That very spirit of generosity,
started by our WSM, Kathy, is what inspired the
R.O.A.R.K.E. Award.
