Yesterday was mostly a blur. I knew when I got in
from dinner the night before that I was coming down
with something. Woke up with a miserable cold, or
the flu who knows? Flu's going around here, I'm
told. I wish it had gone around me.
Did a phoner, got dressed, all packed. Did
TV--interesting show, very loose and friendly. Many
people walking around in costumes, but I felt too
icky to ask why. Saw the article that idiot
reporter from the other day wrote. She mentioned
feminist and educator's studies indicating romances
fostered unrealistic expectations. But she left off
my response to it. Bitch. And she said I claimed to
have 35 million books in print. I knew I didn't
like her.
Got some meds, was able to change into comfortable
clothes. One of the Aussie writers drove us up into
the wine country. It was nice to get out of the
city and I could just zone in the backseat.
Wonderful hills and all those gorgeous trees.
Flowers blooming. Tasted wine, went into an old
flour mill that had been converted into an art
gallery and bought this incredible copper and
bronze egg-shaped box with a woman's face on the
lid. She's beautiful. I knew she was mine. She's
about palm size.
Onto this German restaurant to meet several other
Aussie authors. Very informal. Lots of German
influence is that particular area.
Picked up the luggage at the hotel, and onto the
airport for the flight to Brisbane. I slept the
entire way. We're here at the Hilton where I have
four interviews and the luncheon talk deal. Not
feeling my best. I have I feeling that when we get
to Cairns tonight, I might sleep through most of
our vacation. If I don't feel better tomorrow, I'm
getting a doctor and serious drugs.
I see the problem and will talk to Is about it. If
they want an author to do this much press, that's
fine, but they need to add another day or two to
the schedule. You can't kill the author.
I did sleep for about 12 hours, counting the 2 on
the plane, so I'm some better, but I won't shake
this cold or whatever it is quickly.
